Challenge
To overcome several challenges in managing the fleet of heavy machinery tires. The high cost of new tires, coupled with the environmental impact of tire manufacturing, posed significant hurdles. Additionally, the wear and tear of tires resulted in frequent replacements, further adding to the expenses. There was a need for a cost-effective and sustainable solution to address these challenges while maintaining operational efficiency.
Solution

In 2019, Thriveni became a shareholder in CIO Tyres, India’s first and largest tire re-threader, located in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. This collaboration allowed Thriveni to leverage CIO Tyres’ expertise in tire retreading, a process that extends the lifespan of tires by renewing their treads. By retreading around 3000 tires annually, Thriveni significantly reduced the need for purchasing new tires, thereby lowering costs and minimizing the environmental impact associated with tire production.

CIO Tyres specialized in retreading Off the Road (OTR) tires, catering to a wide range of tire sizes, from scooter tires to the largest Earthmover tires used in mining operations. Tire retreading costs only 25-30% of the cost of a new tire, making it a highly cost-effective solution for fleet management. The retreaded tires exhibited a lifespan of 60-80% of that of a new tire, depending on the operating environment, providing Thriveni with durable and reliable tires for heavy machinery.

Benefits

Enhanced durability and performance: Through tire rethreading, Thriveni experienced improved durability and performance of its fleet tires. The retreaded tires proved to be highly reliable, withstanding the rigorous demands of mining operations. This, in turn, increased the overall efficiency of Thriveni’s operations, minimizing the downtime caused by tire replacements

.Cost-Effectiveness: By adopting tire rethreading, Thriveni achieved substantial cost savings. The reduced tire expenditure positively impacted Thriveni’s financial performance, contributing to improved profitability.

Environmental sustainability: By opting for tire rethreading, the company significantly reduced its carbon footprint. The retreading process saved approximately 2467 tons of CO2 emissions per annum, considering the retreading of 360 tires across 60 pieces of equipment.
